I retired in May 2021 and now work independently through Eirik Fiva Consult.
From 2012 to 2021, I was the director of international office at Nordland County Council, where I was responsible for the county's European affairs and cross-border cooperation in the Barents region and beyond. Before that, I served for nearly a decade as director of Landsdelsutvalget of Northern Norway and North Trøndelag (2003–2012), the regional body that promotes the interests of Northern Norway in national and international arenas.
Earlier in my career, I taught political science, philosophy, and communication management at Nord University (formerly Bodø University College). I have also edited and co-authored several books on regional history and Northern Norwegian society.
